Perception

Somax Perception.

Somax perceives the world digitally. It converts information from electronic sensors to numerical values which are in turn used as input to Neural Networks.

Somax has the following sensors:

  • Color and infrared 3D depth camera. Video and still image camera capable of capturing the distance to each pixel in a 1280 x 720 resolution image or image stream at up to 90 frames per second for the depth and 30 frames per second for depth and color components respectfully. Here is a nice Tom's Hardware write up on the camera.
  • Depth co-processor. Off loads the processing of depth camera point cloud data to produce extremely accurate, low density, 3D non-convex hulls at up to 90 frames a second.
  • 4 channel MEMs microphone array. CD quality 48 kilohertz audio. Synchronized sampling across all channels.
  • Dual attitude, heading and reference co-processors. Camera mounted and frame mounted (under main OLED display.) 9 inertial measurement units, accelerometer, gyroscope, compass feed each co-processor with 3 directional motion data that can be sampled at a maximum of 3.3 million measurements per second.
  • 4 axis camera gimbal. Smooth 800 steps per revolution. Fast 800 steps per second. Pan range: 360 degrees, Tilt range: 270 degrees. Rotate range: 360 degrees. Bend range: 180 degrees.
  • Feather Jack. Allows adafruit Industries compact and versatile Feather Boards to be added and stacked to Somax making it easy to extend Somax's capabilities.
  • Diagnostic Jack is included that provides: an I2C bus input, 4 channel 16 bit high precision analog to digital converter at 860 SPS, 2 channel 12 bit high speed analog to digital converter at 5 MSPS with 2k FIFO sampler buffer, 2 channel 24 to 1526 Hz PWM signal generator, 19.2 Mhz clock signal generator, 0 - 12 volt single channel volt meter. 1 channel 47 volt / 5 amp current meter, 1.8, 3.3, 5.0 and 12v power output. Applications for reading and displaying of voltage, current, signal generation, and analog or digital frequency to on board or external display.
