Psychology

Why Psychology? This is robot stuff. No tissue's allowed! Right?

Wrong!

Let me introduce you to the person, and in a group not more than five distinguished individuals, who history will say changed the face of computer science forever and ushered in the age of general artificial intelligence.

He's the one in the middle and that is not on accident (well maybe it was but you see where I'm going).

Dr. Hinton is an English born and educated Cognitive Psychologist. He is referred to in the circle as the God Father of Deep Learning, Neural networks and any other way can say, " modern artificial intelligence".

He also is related to someone who is also changed the face of computer science forever, George Boole, who is responsible for Boolean Algebra on which digital computers are all based.

Thoughts and Ideas

Self silhouette within the visual field, with varying levels of detail, and it's effect on perceptions of self similarity.

The Intel R200 camera used on proto 3 is a depth camera of special ability. The camera is factory mounted in an aluminum chassis with a reflective face plate. The shiny face, when one is staring face on to the camera it will reflect a an image that is visually verifiable, by the casual observer as self similar.

I have seen peer reviewed evidence that the brain can and does process information within the visual field that is not of direct interest. For example scrolling lists of numbers within, the visual field, that are incident to focus, are summed and compared correctly most of the time by most humans. I hypothesis that this skill and others like it, extend to other primates in the same or similar form.

On the occasion to modify the camera design, a decision is needed for the follow design question.

Does the shiny surface that can reflect the image of a human at some fixed but unknown level of detail impart a better sense of positive affect for the reflecting surface or device connected there to?

Measuring the Energy of Thought

Is there a relationship, in pre-adolescents, between wake, rest, and the amount of energy used in capture of data. Does this change with interest or without? Does this change with problem familiarity?

Motion Patterns as An Indication of Data Value

Is there a relationship between when the eye or the head moves with respect to the value of the data captured? Do any other properties of the movement of the head have any relationship. Things like how fast the head is turned, was this done in part of a sequence, the order, period and duration of each step in the sequence. Many more parameters are surely possible.

A few follow ups:

  • Does context have an impact?
  • Do the same patterns exists within classes of subjects?
  • Do individuals have specialized patterns? If so, do these patterns change with context? If so, what can we tell about the context from the pattern of motion?
